Training and Development Seminars, Multi-skilling in a Recession

Posted in on

At a time when businesses are trying to reduce their costs,  training and development cut backs are not the way go... Business owners should all be focusing on maximising their return on investment (ROI) in their staff. A great platform for this is by utilising training and development seminars; realising the potential of your workforce and increasing productivity accordingly.

So we are in a recession... does that mean we should all  accept it and cut back? No of course not.

The businesses that have the foresight to make themselves more efficient without the need for cutbacks are the ones that then go on to become more successful in the face of adversity. The only way that you can make your company's workforce more efficient is by focusing training and development efforts on the techniques of multi-skilling.

Multi-skilling is the term used when an employee has the ability to perform a number of jobs roles effectively and can be allocated to different tasks as and when business needs require. By having staff that are multi-skilled you can effectively manage time allocation to specific tasks and increase or reduce the staffing levels dedicated to each part of your business accordingly.

To multi-skill your staff they may need to under-go several forms of training and development to gain the correct competancy levels across different job roles. This is where the integration of training and development seminars comes into play to maximise your return on investment.

Contrary to belief, rolling out individual training sessions can be time-consuming and less effective in many respects, as staff may feel they are being singled out for lacking skills as opposed to gaining new ones. By implementing a managed training event and involving all the staff  who will  be directly and indirectly affected by multi-skilling changes, you will unite your workforce towards a motivated and energised goal. One where they will all benefit.
